There are many good reasons a woman could want an abortion. One of the most common reasons to have an abortion is education and career. Women have abortions because they either want to pursue their education or build their career. It is not fair to punish women who get pregnant unintentionaly and feel that they cannot fulfill their goals in life or cannot finish school with a child. Most abortions occur in the U.S. occur to avoid the birth of children out of wedlock. According to the National Abortion Federation out of roughly 1.5 million abortions in 1992, only 271,000 were performed upon married women. A women who decides to have an abortion because it is not a good time to have a child is not making a selfish decision. Some doctors even agree that although an abortion destroys an embryo, it is not murder. The embryo or fetus is not a seperate human life because it is not able to live outside the woman's body. Abortion is not murder rather a moral choice. Another reason for abortion is when a woman is raped and becomes pregnant from the rape. Many women go through abportion after being raped to avoid flashbacks from the incident and the baby would be a constant reminder of the pain the woman went through. Each year, about 16,000 women report they have abortions because they have become pregnant because of rape. Many people try to argue that the fetus is innocent in cases of rape, but so is the woman when you think about it.
