I believe that, with in reason, a person should have the right to act in their own self interest without fear of governmental prosecution. Some of the pro-life members think that the reason women shouldn’t be able to abort is that the mother is ending an unborn child’s life and if the mother is old enough to get pregnant they are old enough to have a child. Some pro-life activists also think that even if you have to put the baby up for adoption later you should still have the baby. Although some of the reasoning that pro-life activist use, might seem a little ridiculous at time and many of there methods can be very dangerous, these pro-lifers want to put the life and future of a women into the hands of the government. The opposing side has a different argument. Pro-choice, this is the side that believes that if a women gets pregnant she should have the right to abort. Some pro-choice activists believe there are a number of reasons why a mother would choose to abort. One, there might be something very wrong with the child, and the child might be better off never being born then having a life with many serious and sometimes life threatening problems. There is also a question of human life. What happens when a mother’s life is endangered, or if a woman is raped or what if the child will have severe disorders, what about the quality of life? These are all unfortunate things but they must be taken into account. Many people that support the right of a woman to decide what to do with her own body may be personally against abortion, but that does not mean they think the government should be able to pass laws governing what females do with their bodies. Pro-choice people simply believe that it is right for a woman to assess her situation and decide her choice. There will be women who are going to seek abortions; there will be men who will help them arrange for the abortion and the doctors who will perform the abortion. Keeping abortion legalized will assure women to have safe conditions, with qualified doctors and the proper medical and emotional care, remember that before 1973 thousands of women died from “back alley” abortions, legalizing abortion has allowed women to have safe conditions.
