A Summary of Silent Spring

This is the result of the irresponsible use of chemical poisons for insect control. The book states its goal, which is to inform the reader of the nature of chemical poisons and how they affect the process of the world. There are descriptions of the different kinds of chemical poisons, especially the ones that are used as insecticides. Carson explains that when and improper amount of insecticides are exposed to animals and birds, they a depositing themselves in fatty tissues in which they become enlarged. When people are exposed to the different types of poisons and it is passed through the food chain, all kinds of diseases may come about. Some of them are liver disease, hepatitis, cancer and among other ones. Death is also a common result. An examination of all elements of the environment is used to show the reader how each element is affected by the insecticides. Water pollution is the result of chemicals that are washed into bodies of water or they may even seep into ground water, which is the source of public water supplies. Sometimes, chemicals may combine with other chemicals that have previously been washed into the water. However, researchers are not sure of the results of these mixing of different chemicals. Soil is another component that is discussed in Silent Spring. It is made out of the bodies of living creatures. Since millions of living creatures live in the earth new earth is created every day. Insecticides tend to kill this cycle of life. Also, insecticides, when exposed to the ground, remain in the soil for several years after their use.
