Blanche appears to be a controlled by frantic emotions. As the conversation thickens, she begins to speak feverishly and harshly towards Stella. This, along with her nervous breakdown, and her urge to drink alcohol, is noticeable and should be examined. Perhaps she is an insecure and uncontrollable alcoholic, who has come to her sister’s home because she has nowhere else to go. Around mid-scene, Blanche and Stella’s conversation picks up pace. Blanche, after having a drink, explains why she came and begins to ask Stella questions about her new life. Blanche becomes upset that Stella is living a lower class life, and criticizes her figure and her “Polack”. Suddenly, Blanche has an emotional outburst and reveals that she lost the family plantation at Belle Reve.
