As a result, the classroom atmosphere is non-threatening and supportive, and focused on learning. Nancy seeks out ways in which students can make a lasting bond with her class, especially in the leadership development class. She encourages students to become involved in the community, seek out mentors in their areas of interest, and apply what they have learned in class. Nancy's role is that of a facilitator in the leadership class. Students respond positively when they see their teacher care about them and their development as leaders. The lesson plan is structured so all students will be engaged in learning by using a variety of instructional strategies, including lecture, modeling, problem solving and discussion. Nancy's experience and expertise allow her to plan for helping students through difficult problems by building the lesson around them. Two skills that Nancy demonstrates as strengths in lesson planning and preparation are student ability analysis and application of skills beyond the classroom, so they can see how their knowledge can benefit them.
