Guns used for hunting are large rifles and shot guns these guns a rarely in there cars or near there children. Most hunters have a gun case where they keep there gun so it is not in anyone’s way and also to keep out of the hands of there children. Another reason why people own guns is for protection. Although there are many different ways to protect your self many people feel safer with a gun in there car or hand bag. They are almost never used. The guns mostly used for protection are hand guns. They are very small and compact and easy to carry. In the case of Ramona Patterson having a gun at her home was a good thing. Her son was coming home from school one day and he was being cased be a pit bull. The boy was screaming and as soon Ramona heard the noise she ran out to see what was going on. There she saw her son running from the dog. She quickly ran in the house and grabbed her semi-automatic handgun. As the dog approached she fired a single shot and the dog was knocked to the ground where it crawled off and died. In this case Ramona saved her child from a severe injury (Lee 17, 1). But there are many other cases where the out come isn’t that good. In Indiana a woman was sleeping when she heard a loud noise coming form down stairs there she found a whole in her door. It looked like a man kicked it in. She ran to the phone to call the police. She heard another kick and saw the man trying to crawl in she then fired a shot at him missing him and scaring the man back out of the whole by that time the police came. The man was drunk and thought that the house was his (Lee 17, 2). Now if the women with the gun had really shot him she would have been very sad to learn that the man was just confused. Guns can be used for sport or for protection but why bother there is another alternative to having a gun. Gun can promote unnecessary violence in people. People get crazy with guns any little noise they hear they grab there gun and check it out. Usually its nothing, it could just be their child getting a drink in the middle of the night. And there parents are standing there with a gun ready to shoot. That is unnecessary to have a gun in the house with children. Kids are very curious people, they like to look at and touch everything and they also like to show off. Millions of children each year are killed because there parents had a gun. Guns are used for violence in various illegal acts like armed robberies and murders. Thousands of innocent people are killed in cross fire between police and robbers each year.
