He can sin throughout his reign if he shows greediness by continually wanting more and more. Along with wanting more wealth, a monarch can lose this mandate if he desires women too much. Dancing and showing signs of drunkenness is also considered evil. You should use be wise and use knowledgeable words. A monarch should not turn away those that are virtuous and respectable. The consequences of these “sins” are the collapse of the monarch’s family as well as the fall of the country. Branding will also punish the monarch. In The Classic of Odes good government is to do what is customary. Following old customs of ancestors will please them and keep them safe. People feel comfortable with what they already know and new changes can worry people. One has to strive for integrity, good behavior and follow the commands of the king. To achieve this good government one also has to be obedient and to walk on a straight and narrow path. According to Confucius’ concept people should let laws control and guide them. If one follows the laws and shows desirable qualities then others will want to be like them and they will follow after their ways. Those that are good should be advanced within the community and those that are not should be taught how to become upright. The people should be shown how to live right and then they will live respectably. If the person in charge acts in the right manner then those that look up to him will want to be like him. After reading Lessons for Women I can conclude that the rules of property that should govern a marriage are that a woman should be respectable, so that she can attend to her husband‘s needs the best that she can. She should be good, know when to speak and when to remain silent. She shouldn’t take part in meaningless hearsay. She will not be honorable if she doesn’t uphold these things.
