Down the drive and next to my mother’s flower garden was the best climbing tree in the world. Across the yard, at the bottom of a sloping hill, was a bright blue swingset my father had painted for me the previous spring. Every morning I ran out that door, I was greeted with the fragrant smell of lilacs. As I skipped down the drive, the sweet smell of mom’s flower garden would overtake me. Then, running to the swingset, I would inevitably sneeze from the smell of freshly cut grass. Sitting in my favorite swing, I could hear the birds singing their daily songs.
