The university must demonstrate to this group that South Carolina football is not only one of the top programs in the country, but also that USC wins by following NCAA rules. Not many potential recruits are going to want to play for a school that because of NCAA violations cannot appear on television or participate in a bowl game. Another group that would be greatly affected by these developments are the alumni and booster clubs associated with the university. A large amount of the revenue that goes to funding the school's athletic programs, especially football, come from these alumni and touchdown clubs. If these groups are not happy because their money is going to fund a team that has broken numerous rules, then they will stop writing checks to the order of the University of South Carolina. OBJECTIVES The major goal of the University of South Carolina Athletic Department is maintain their excellence on the field without jeopardizing the integrity of the university and those associated with the school. Therefore, the two primary objectives are: To attract the same high level of football recruits as before the investigation. To maintain the same level of financial support from alumni and boosters as last year. RESEARCH Research should be conducted to better determine how to best deal with this public relations case. Some of the research that should be done is as follows: Interview the university community to gauge their reaction to the investigation. This research will also uncover any other potential rules violations that must be dealt with to prevent future violations. Talk with current players to see what their major motivating factors were in their decision to attend South Carolina. Get in touch with other colleges to discuss how they dealt with NCAA violations. These other schools can give valuable information on how to handle problems such as recruits and boosters during this time of conflict.
