... story line. I, myself have limited knowledge of Chinese culture but even the most avid studier of the Chinese culture would not see where fact met fiction in the writing. Some minor details included in the book may not have been necessary to receive the same message. Life was definitely no walk in the park in those times. It was hard work enough to keep your self feed and warm. If I were to have the chance to experience those times as one of the characters in the book I was most likely pass. The excitement of the lifestyle would without doubt come to an end sooner than one would have hoped for. I am more than happy in the current culture I am living in and the lifestyle I have and would not comprise it for anything. If I were to fill a characters spot such as La Lu, I would be in for some struggles right off the bat. Jumping around from place to place, not having the everyday freedoms you took for granted would not be ideal.
