"The revolt of Mother" themes

...isrespects her so much, saying that he husband would never do such a thing, but Sarah just says that all men are that way and her fiancé would soon be the same. For the most part of the story this is how it goes. Sarah defends her husband and does what he says, showing that the roles are very clear in their life. By the end of the story Sarah decides to stand up for herself and all women of that time. While Adoniram is away picking up a new horse Sarah packs everything up with her children and moves into the new barn. During this move you see the townspeople react. They are horrified that a woman is going against her husband and disobeying him. They soon think that she is insane. When Adoniram arrives home he sees that his family has moved into the barn and crumbles agreeing too many any changes in the barn that she wants, showing that he wants to please his wife but just didn’t realize that that’s what she wanted. Another theme of this story would be Search for self. Throughout the story Sarah is on a search. She is not her own person she is only hiding behind her husband. Liking the things he says to like, doing the things that he wants her to do, never anything for herself. When Adoniram decides that he is no longer going to build Sarah a new house, but a barn Sarah becomes enraged. He promised her that he would build her a new house and he no long is doing so. She now knows that she has to step up to him and demand a new house. She first tries to talk to him about it but that gets her nowhere. She knows that she has to stand up for herself and her children. She was not happy with her ...
