Kino said that he and Juana would have a church wedding and they would be able to buy shoes and he would also be able to buy new clothes and pay for Coyotito’s schooling. He had visions of Coyotito being able to read big and long books on his own, he also saw his son dressed in his school uniform looking sharp like he had seen before through an open door, he said that the schooling would make him be successful in life. After the word gone around about the finding of the pearl the doctor came to the house of Kino to give Coyotito medical attention. After looking at the infant the doctor said that he would be able to cure the baby. After the treatment the doctor implied that Coyotito would soon be well. The doctor knowing about his new fortune asked Kino if he would be able to pay for the treatment. Kino explained that he would soon pay him when he had sold his large pearl. The doctor glancing around the room looking for the pearl told Kino that he would do him the favor of letting him keep the pearl in his personal safe and insured Kino that it was secure place. Kino denied his offer and assured him that he had a nice spot. The doctor being turned down he replied it would be a shame for the pearl to be stolen, with that being said Kino felt uneasy and moved the spot where he stored the pearl. The next day Kino and Juana were on their way to sell the pearl when Kino’s brother Juan Tomas greeted them, whom was the older of the two. He warned Kino that there were greedy people who would cheat him. Juan Tomas also told Kino not to take the first offer. On their way Kino and Juan Tomas reminisced when they were younger that their were people who would go to the capital to sell pearls and receive a larger amount of money. Juana said that she knew that Kino would make the right move and take good care of things. When they reached inside of town they went to dealers. As Kino walked into the dealers store, the dealer asked if he was able to help him, Kino replied that he had a pearl that was worth a great deal of money. The dealer sarcastically said that most men bring a lot more then one pearl at a time. Soon Kino pulled out the pearl and showed the dealer. The dealer being real impressed from his finding but acted as if it was worth almost nothing. Wanting to buy it cheaper and selling it for more. Since the dealer only offered a small amount of money for it. Kino decided to sell his pearl in the capital city, where he believes he will get a fair price. This amazes the villagers because Kino has never traveled so far. That night Kino was attacked, Juana was sure that the pearl was evil and it would destroy the family and that Kino should abandon the pearl. Later on that night Juana quietly removed the pearl from the spot Kino placed it and ran to through it into the sea. Kino chasing Juana tackles her and takes the pearl from her. As he was making his way to his hut he was attack once again by a group of men. He fought the men off, killing one and causing the rest of the men to leave. During the fight Kino dropped the pearl along the path up to the hut Juana picked it up and handed it to Kino while he was laying on the ground. She told Kino that he’ll soon be label as a murderer and they must leave at once. As Kino agrees he rushes to shore to prepare the canoe as Juana returns home to gather Coyotito and their belongings. As Kino arrives to the canoe he found it destroyed by the men. As he climbs the hill he notices his house on fire. So Kino rushed Juana and Coyotito to his brother Juan Tomas’s house for the night with his wife Apolonia whom agreed not to say anything about where Kino was so that they would remain safe. The next morning Kino and Juana began their journey to the capital. They traveled north, then see...
