"Epic Hero"

Also, Odysseus antagonizes the Cyclops by saying, “Cyclops,/ if ever mortal man inquire/ how you were put to shame and blinded, tell him/ Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye:/ Laertes’ son, whose home’s on Ithaca!” These factors illustrate Odysseus’ human fault. Another component of an epic hero is he must make a journey to achieve his goal. On Odysseus’s journey he encounters many monsters. One of these monsters is Scylla. Odysseus chose not to tell his men about Scylla, because he says, “They would have dropped their oars again, in panic,/ to roll for covering under the decking.” Odysseus’ goal is to reach his home, Ithaca. Odysseus’ motivation to keep trying to get home is his family. Odysseus’ constant stride to achieve his goal makes him a real epic hero. Finally, Odysseus is an epic hero because his journey is filled with danger, hardship, and temptation. Odysseus is in a lot of danger throughout the whole journey.
