"Conformity Quote; "when they give you ruled paper, write the other way"
...ld refer to many things, but in my mind it refers to society. Society is the metaphorical object that tells us what is right and wrong. While our parents might directly tell us, it is society as a whole that dictates right and wrong to us. Whether it is through the media (television, radio, magazines) or the things our peers tell us to do, society greatly impacts our every decision. It’s when people go against society, that they are being a nonconformist, which is what this quote dictates for us to do. One specific example of how I personally am I nonconformist is my ability to tell someone the absolute truth. I can tell someone exactly how I feel about a situation and pretty much always feel comfortable with expressing myself. It could be about something personal (How I feel or my thoughts on a subject), or something about that person (Exactly what I think of him/her). This ability sometimes works against me, like when I tell someone a little to much about myself or if I tell someone something I should have kept to myself. For example (this is hypothetical), if my friend came to my house one day wearing something that looked like he picked it up off the street and then burned it, I would have no problem saying my exact thoughts on what his “spiffy” outfit looked like. He might not like what I have to say, he might even get angry at me, but I would have no problem telling him. If he were my true friend, things like that would not come between us. Society says this is unacceptable behavior, and that comments like that should be kept to myself due to possibly hurting someone’s feelings. I truly do not agree with this, thus making it an nonconformist action. Another example of a way in which I am personally a nonconformist is my mentality of “my way, or the highway”. When it comes to issues on which I have to argue a point, I always (or always try my hardest) to win. My ability to persuade others to see the way I am thinking and how I perceive things is an excellent tool I use daily. Sometimes it is very easy to persuade others, but other times it takes a little work and reasoning with the person, but it seems I almost always get through to them. Either that or they just give up arguing with me. ...
