Should there be further restrictions on smoking or should it be completely banned
There is much debate about the effects smoking has on people and whether it should be banned from public places or even completely. I believe that there should be further restrictions on the advertising and selling of tobacco and a ban enforced to prevent people from smoking in public completely. ... I think that further restrictions should be placed against the use of tobacco. Everyone has the right to freedom so should not be targeted for their choices. However, I believe that tobacco companies should be acted against. ... Therefore, I think that cigarettes and any other tobacco product should me removed from shop shelves and stopped being sold to the public. I think that smoking should be banned for this reason. ... Furthermore, I think smoking should be banned due to the great effect they have on a person’s health. For example, in the US, research by the American Cancer Society showed that smoking caused more deaths than AIDS, alcohol, drug abuse, car crashes, murders, suicides, and fires combined - in total, about 400,000 deaths each year. ... Each year, 3 million people die from a smoking related illness, which is one person every ten seconds. Smokers are up to 22 times more likely to develop lung cancer than non-smokers, and smoking can lead to a variety of other health problems, including emphysema and heart disease. ... It would therefore be reasonable to ban smoking - an activity that kills millions of people each year. It is also the case that smoking harms others, not just the user through “passive smoking”.
