The Book 'Montana 1948', written by Larry Watson, is extremely inspirational in many ways. It expresses confusion, racism, change, justice, injustice and the meaning of relationships. Confusion played a major part in the novel. Mostly in David's mind. He was a boy going through puberty. Not knowing how to react to the situation that came abruptly upon himself and his family. Due to this, the novel talks about the incident but also in many area's refers to his personal thoughts and feelings. This reminds us that the story is an outlook of a child's point of view. David refers to the situation but yet doesn't mourn the importance of Marie's death or anything else, like a child he mourns what he considers to be important.: “My tears, however, were not for Marie, whom I loved, or my uncle, whom I once idolised, or for my parents or grandparents or for my community or my life in it..... I cried because I believed that I would never see my horse, Nutty, again.” By: David (narrator) Pg: 125 His ability to understand the true meaning of what is happening should be questioned. A child, in so many ways is trying to grow up too quickly.
