3. Classifying Ideas What two far-reaching social changes were brought about by economic growth after World War II? A few years after the war, Japanese had become almost self-supporting in the production of food, due to mechanization and the introduction of new types of seeds and fertilizer. Japan developed more efficient industries that made high quality products, electronics, car, etc. These growth did brought prosperity, increase in consumerism. However, it did not necessarily bring improvements in the quality of life. Japanese people worked longer hours a week than western counterparts. These economic changes brought many social changes. WomenĄŻs status rose, in time, they won greater legal, political, and social freedoms. And emphasis on the family, traditionally center of Japanese life had changed.
