In the West Laville lobby on LSU’s campus there is an interesting and somewhat strange group of people called the “Lobby Rats. ... The Lobby Rats started in 1999 out on the patio and in 2000 inside the lobby. ... Once the weather started getting cold, they moved inside to the lobby and stayed there. The majority of the Lobby Rats played “Settlers of Catan” all of the time; a good number of them would stay up until all hours of the morning playing this. Several of them also played Risk, each player had a different assigned mission for the game, but “We all had the same secret mission: Kill Blue” said Caleb, one of the original Lobby Rats about Melvin, who always played as blue and “kicked ass at this game. ... Many of the lobby rats had classes that ended before the shows started and would meet in the lobby to watch it; sometimes they would schedule classes around the shows’ schedule. ... The Lobby Rats watch more television now than they used to. ... Other than “anime,” the Lobby Rats also watch “The Simpson’s,” “Family Guy,” “King of the Hill,” “Futurama,” some shows from the Sci-Fi channel, or whatever random movies people bring in to watch. ... The newer Lobby Rats also play “Magic: The Gathering” almost every night. ... Aside from “Magic,” some of the Lobby Rats and other friends play the popular role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons, or “D&D. ...
