In the Canterbury tales by Chaucer, each character is on there own pilgrimage. During this pilgrimage each character tells a story, in these stories the characters true personality is reveled. The Miller loves bawdy, rude humor and in his story that he tells is full of it. The wife of Bath has had five husbands and she is looking for the sixth while on the pilgrimage. With all of her husbands she tried to control each one of them. This trait of her character is portrayed in her story. The Pardoner is obsessed with greed, and his tale is focused with that aspect of his character. The Miller and the carpenter exchanged some unfriendly words before he began to tell his tale. The Millers tale is about a dumb carpenter, his young wife Alison, the man that was staying with them Nicholay, and the village priest. Nicholay wanted to have sex with Alison, but Alison was a married women but young, and she agreed to have sex with Nicholay if he could trick her husband for the night that they would have sex. Nicholay thought long and hard as to how to trick Alison’s husband, then one day he thought of a plan. Nicholay would trick the carpenter into thinking that the world was to be flooded. Then Nicholay instructed the carpenter to get three troughs and hang them from the rafters of his house. That night when the carpenter, Alison and Nicholay were asleep in the troughs; Alison and Nicholay snuck down and had sex. While they were having sex the priest came and begged Alison for a kiss. Wanting to make a fool of the priest Alison told him to go to the window.
