I can identify with the older son John. Why you ask? Simply put my relationship with my own mother can be considered a terrible one. A relationship guided by the sheer determination to find the root cause of such deep-rooted hate, or utter disgust. In this film John is going through the same troublesome quarrel. However his is more of a push and pull type of relationship with his mother. In this particular movie there is a power struggle between the older brother John and his younger more successful brother, Jeff. The struggle between the two can be defined as a love-hate relationship. By no means are these two brothers close, however they both have one common theme. Between the two of them they are fighting for every square inch of time with their mother, both for different reasons.
