A Time To Kill by John Grisham This book was about a street lawyer, Jake Brigance, who gets the biggest case of his career. ... He wants to kill the men and asks Jake what he would do; Jake himself has a daughter about the same age and says he would kill them if it was his daughter, and from that moment on Carl Lee’s mind is made up. He needs to see the way that the men walk in and out of the courthouse because that is the only time when he would have a chance to kill them without hurting anyone else. ... Also it shows a lot of understandable racist tension because black people think that Carl Lee wouldn’t be convicted if he was a white man who killed two black men; in the south at that time this would be very likely. ... At the same time the black people organize a meeting of The Council of Ministers, a group of black preachers formed to co-ordinate political activities in the black communities of Ford County.
