Mars: God of War
Since Mars is very bright and therefore easily spotted in the night sky, we don¡¯t know who exactly discovered Mars. We do know that it was named after the Roman God of War, because of its reddish color reminded people of blood, and Mars gets its reddish color from iron oxide in the rocks and soil of its surface.
Mars is quite similar to the Earth in its rotation rate and the tilt of its axis, so both the daily and seasonal changes of the Martian atmosphere are much like the Earth¡¯s. Both the Earth and Mars also have similar global atmospheric patterns. In 1659, Christian Huygens discovered a strange feature on the surface of the Red Planent (later called the Syrtis Major); this is why he was so convinced that there was life on Mars.
