The color purple is one of Steven Speilberg's best films. He proves that he can actually make movies that matter. Still, one has to uestion whether any white male could have done a better job telling a black woman's story. The story is a harsly beautiful account onf the innner strength and spirit of a woman. Celie leads a rough life of droughery, undervaue, and abuse until her husband's lover Shug shows her the way to love and to God. The two woman share a poigant romance in the film, yet still holds much meaning. Instead of the passion felt in the film, the movie transforms the relationship into more of an intellectual and spiritualjourney.
