Do you remember the time that a classmate stuck gum on your chair? In opposition, maybe you were the one that enjoyed the sound of the loud ‘squish’ on the seat. When kids are young it doesn’t matter who you are, at one time or another everyone is a victim of cruel revenge. Being a youngster in the elementary grades is like surviving a mine filled battlefield. Seven and nine year olds don’t quite fathom what they are doing, but yet they are like programmed robots with their own unique personalities. The world has not yet tampered with their head yet, or poisoned their brain. It is easy to tell how their attitudes will carry over to shape them as they are adults. Sitting alone at lunch, having leftovers of green peas chucked towards their direction, someone hoping to go for the slaughter. It is quite easy to recognize the intellectuals out of a group of small kids. Most likely this is not the kid that would cut a girl’s ponytail off, carve their initials in the playground equipment, or find it amusing to see how far the chocolate milk could be squirted out from their hairy nostrils. Instead, this child listens and focuses intently to surrounding conversations, and makes valuable use with time. This individual is the one that makes every other kid shiver waiting in line for the annual “spelling bee”. In life they are the ones that see it beneficiary to do the daily memorization of the multiplication facts, to help themselves help their future. They are the little sponges that absorb knowledge, and put it to good use. Unlike their fellow peers, they probably wouldn’t find it hilarious to bang chalk erasers on an unsuspecting teacher’s seat.
