Earthquakes An earthquake is a shaking of the ground caused by breaking and shifting of large sections of the earth’s rocky outer shell (McNally pg 33). Most earthquakes occur along the boundaries of the rocky plates that cover the earth’s surface. Eighty percent of the world’s major earthquakes happen on a belt encircling the Pacific Ocean (McNally pg 36-38). Earthquakes can happen anywhere especially around the plate tectonics. ...
