In the first excerpt from Aquinas’ “Summa Theologiae”, the famous theologian addresses the essential question of “what is Christian theology? ... Aquinas further divides each article into a series of opposing arguments, as he attempts to contend for each side of the yes or no sub-questions. At the end of each section, however, Aquinas gives his final solution which he asserts is the correct one. ... Aquinas comes to many conclusions. Concerning the first inquiry, Aquinas realizes that theology is necessary to welcome “high things” which are sometimes revealed by God. ... Aquinas also rationalizes that Christian teaching is a science because it is evident in itself and can be observed through other sciences.
