When the play hit the theatres in the 1950’s, it received a warm welcome from the audience. It has also been acclaimed as one of the best dramas in American history. When the film adaptation of the play was shown on the silver screen in 1960, it was given such positive ratings. The film also bagged numerous awards from prestigious award giving bodies like the Berlin Film Festival. Although the film ran on the familiar storyline, some modifications and additions were done in order for the project to be suitable on the silver screen. The film gave importance to the story’s themes of appearance vs. reality, fundamentalism vs. liberal thinking and of how people at oftentimes just go with the crowd. Appearance vs. reality has always the main theme of inherit the mind even on its theatre version.
