During this scene Lady Macbeths Gentle woman , and a Doctor are observing Lady Macbeth as she sleep walks . Unaware to Lady Macbeth she is talking whilst sleeping and revealing what she knows about the murders , along with constantly washing her hands .
At the start of the scene The Gentle Woman and the Doctor are talking about how oddly Lady Macbeth is acting , and especially why she is rubbing her hands . ... I have known her to continue in this a quarter of an hour " I think that Shakespheare has made Lady Macbeth out to seem as if she is acting really quite oddly , he wants to show how her guilt and her part in the murders has turned ino a week troubled character . It is though the burdon of knowing what she and Macbeth have done ,that has driven her mad .
When Lady Macbeth is talking , without realising she is reapeating what she knows of the murders , particularly the murder of Banquo , Duncan , and Macduffs family . ... Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him " She is ovbiously refering to the murder of Duncan ,this proves she is unaware of what she is doing , because in previously in the play she is trying really hard to help Macbeth not to say anying , and covering up his tracks for him , after he has made mistakes . This is showing Lady Macbeth , and Macbeth himself , to have reversed roles . At the start Lady Macbeth is protrayed to be the stronger of the two characters , and also to be the more determined of the two . She was always pushing Macbeth , its was showing her to be more ambitious for her husband than he was , but she didnt stop for a moment wether or not it was right or wrong for him to kill Duncan . Only wether she would get what she wanted , Macbeth to become king . She expresss her feelings so strongly to Macbeth - who is quite weak to begin with -and he just gives in to her . ... Because Macbeth is to shaken to return the daggers back to the secne . At points she seemed almost wicked , always pushing Macbeth further and further until he gives in . Without her Macbeth probably wouldnt have turned into such a twisted character , and probably wouldnt had gone as far as he did. ... But once Macbeth becomes king its as if he doent need her support any more .
