The title "Tall Nettles" gives a very good description of what the poem is about. it sets the scene of overgrown, out of contron aeras of nettles in a farmyard, which is not in use. ...
One can also view the poet to be a craven idle who sits undisturbed, among the unused tools in the farm, like dust on the nettles, hiding or disassociating himself from the war. perhaps, he may be silently waiting for death to wash him away like the showers cleanse dust from the nettles.
