Kandahar
This movie exposed a part of the world that I was totally unfamiliar with and made me realize how lucky I was. The movie took place in Iran and Afghanistan and the terrain was either mountainous or desert. The people of these countries are poor and constantly starving or sick. Land mines are ubiquitous in this region and countless people have either died or lost limbs due to these dangerous devices. People actually fight over prosthetic legs and they are used as money. The movie opened with a scene of an eclipse. I was very confused by this and didn’t know what to expect from the movie. As the movie progresses, I learned that a woman was going undercover into the region to rescue her sister in Kandahar, Afghanistan. She is planning on committing suicide when the eclipse occurs. She is placed into a race which is literally against the sun to save her.
