Graphite Furnace AA Spectroscopy Objective: The main purpose of the lab was to learn about the aspects and the purpose of using the GFAAS system. We’re going to take and analyze copper in solution and compare our results to that of the regular FAAS system. Although it is known that the sensitivity of the GFAAS system is about 1,000x greater than the FAAS system, but a side effect to this is the amount of time needed to analyze a solution. Materials & Procedure: 1000ppb stock solution of Copper Nitrate DI water Tap Water Concentrated Nitric Acid Palladium in 1000ppm Magnesium in 1000ppm We took 3 100mL copper solutions at 10, 20, and 40ppb respectively using the 1000ppb copper standard. We used the equation: V=(X*100mL)/1000ppb and found that to get the concentrations above we needed 1, 2, and 4mL of the standard to get the respective ppb.
