In society, each individual has their unique way of coping with the struggles of everyday life. In the 2002 film Adaptation, two brothers search to find not only themselves, but also success in their careers as screenwriters. Although they are identical twins, the brothers possess opposite personalities. One of the brothers, Charlie Kaufman, has a personality that can be compared to the Greek god Apollo. Charlie, like Apollo, follows “[…] the principle of order, logic, clarity, moderation, and control in the human personality and in society”(Janaro and Altshuler 41). The other brother, Donald Kaufman, has a personality that can be compared to the Greek god Dionysus. Donald lives and acts as Dionysus did with “[…] spontaneity, passion, intuition, and excess in the human personality and rebellion against society”(41).
