Georgiana’s Life: A living Tragedy because of Aylmer Sin of self-love possesseth all mine eye, And all my soul, and all my every part; And for this sin there is no remedy, It is so grounded inward in my heart. Methinks no face so gracious is as mine, This excerpt from Shakespeare’s sonnet, “Sin of self-love possesseth all mine eye” is a classic depiction of people with pride and self-love. Pride and self-love is one of the most favorite sins of Satan, because it not only destroys one’s own life rather it ruins the lives of many others. Some people become proud when make big achievements, and they think that they can do anything with their intelligence, but one should never forget that pride is for God only. In “The Birthmark”, Hawthorne has characterized Aylmer as one of those people who become very proud and self-loving because of their achievements.
