United States of America Were All Men Created Equal

This country was built around the idea that all men and women were created equal. The United States would be a much better nation if our founding fathers had merely stuck to their words. Racism and discrimination are the direct results of a failed attempt to establish a country with absolute equality and freedom for all. Before the United States even existed, the “New World” started heading for its destiny with the colonization process by Europeans. ... Similar to the situation in North America, a culture is usually oppressed, taking away its power, as well as the power of the voice of its people. ... ” After exploring a variety of opinions and experiences dealing with the Contact Zone, it is easy to identify the relationship between the Contact Zone, power, and voice as it relates to the society of the United States of America.
     There are various instances of the Contact Zone still occurring within the United States today. ... Some examples of the Contact Zone in the United States date back to slavery and nationalistic ideas. ... In the United States, this power belongs to White Americans. The United States government is run by a majority of White Americans, giving White Americans much more power than any other group within the country. In other words, certainly with no pun intended, White Americans are considered the Norm and all other cultures are considered the Other. ... In most societies, specifically in the United States, being part of the Norm is quite advantageous, while being labeled, as the Other is rather negative. ... As stated before, the culture with the power tend to define the standards for normal, therefore giving all of the power to people who fit into that category, while most of the power is taken from the Others.
