Lost in the Freedom of Education
“Without Education, you’re not going anywhere in this world. ... By relating to his audience, Malcolm X’s autobiographical approach gives them a good understanding of the importance of education. ... The poor treatment of African Americans made learning hard for them, and Malcolm’s experience with the educational system let his audience know that he also struggled with education. ... His education was a joke, like when his seventh-grade teacher made a joke of “Negroes” when they studied the “one” paragraph of African American history (97). ... Children became disgusted with school and stopped caring, thus ruining their chances of good education. Malcolm X wanted to include his personal experience to teach those children that racism could not stop education. ... Leadership has a lot of power, and Malcolm X relied on his to teach his audience the significance of education. ... He tried to show his audience that education opened a new street on his “road of life. ... Telling his readers that education was important, while backing it up with personal experience made Malcolm’s message more convincing. ... Like any great leader would have, Malcolm X used this bond to inspire his audience to get an education.
