The Rights to the Streets of Memphis “The Rights to the Streets of Memphis” is a short story. It’s about a boy’s development from a child to a grown-up and how he learns how to stand up for himself. His father has left home, so he lives with his mom and brother. The text starts with that the boy feels very hungry. He walks in to his mother and begs for some food. She tries to make him have other thoughts by telling him a joke, but it does not affect him. He tells her again that he is very hungry and wants something to eat. Then she answers that there is nothing to eat. And after that she asks the boy where his father is. Then he starts thinking about why is father had been gone for several days. Then he realizes that it is because of his fathers’ absence that there is no food in the house.
