To what extent is embryo research supported by religious and moral teaching
There are many views and variations as to the level of support that certain religious and moral groups give to the research of embryos. The church of Scotland are one of the religious groups which does in fact support the practice of embryo research, well that is that they have no moral objections to it as long as the research does not exceed the 14 day legal limit, they do however strenuously oppose any extension of that limit. ... However the Church of Scotland also believes that for the research to continue a strong case must be put forward to prove that use of pre-embryos is the only way in which this particular research can be undertaken, and they must show that it cannot be achieved any other way. The church agrees with the popular view that an embryo becomes a person at conception and because of this they, “Affirm the sanctity of the embryo from conception”, They wish the embryos “special nature” to be recognised in law.
