In the movie Never Been Kissed, Drew Barrymore plays an overachieving reporter (Josie Geller) with no social life working for the Chicago Sun-Times. When her boss, Rigfort, played by Garry Marshall, tells her she is going to go undercover at a local high school for her first assignment, she is ecstatic. Then she remembers what high school was really like. She was the class nerd where they chanted her name, “Josie Grossie” and was madly in love with a guy who later stood her up at prom. Josie was determined to fit in this time around. When Josie fails to fit in with the “cool” kids, she makes friends with other “losers” and attempts to write stories from their perspective. Unfortunately, her department boss, Gus, played by John C. Reilly, hates the stories and threatens, that if she doesn’t become friends with the “cool” kids and write stories about them, she will get fired and he will too.
