Traditions: A Festival of Ice
As long as I could remember, the winters I spent in China as a young girl was dominated by one thing: the Winter Festival. ...
Ever since I was five, my parents would take me to see the “city built of ice” in the park near the Song Hua Jiang (Song Hua River), the fourth largest river in all of China.
Every park had their own ice sculptures, but the most concentrated collection of ice structures were by the Song Hua River. Every winter, construction workers would cut a huge chunk of ice from the frozen river, which was clear and free of bubbles.
