True Honor

What is the meaning of the virtue, honor? ... The concept of honor is never given a solid meaning in Henry IV Part I even though it is the theme that underlies the entire play. Three major characters in the play use honor differently. These different uses for honor create speculation as to what honors ultimate value truly is. Hotspur, Falstaff and Prince Henry all define honor in a different way. Each character’s individuality can be seen through the way in which they identify the virtue of honor. ... Hotspur believes that honor is only associated with military glory and fame and with protecting one’s reputation.
