In the novel, “Wuthering Heights” Emily Bronte uses the repetition of names for example Catherine and Young Catherine. The roles of specific names play a significant part in the novel. A better understanding of the roles will give an in-depth look at the different characters. The names have a significant role in the novel. As the second generation of characters increasingly displays certain characteristics of the first generation, names come to represent particular qualities. The Earnshaws seem to be wild and passionate. While on the other hand the Linton’s are tame and civilized people, therefore Young Catherine displays a milder temperament than her mother does, Catherine Earnshaw. Linton Healthcliff has a mixture of both his parents’ bad personalities. He possesses Healthcliffs arrogance and imperfectness, combined with the Linton’s cowardice and weakness. In the novel both Catherine’s share the same names.
