In an effort to protect its clients, investors, staff, and consumers, DoubleClick Inc., has established “privacy awareness and understanding of the fair information principles” (“Privacy Leadership”). Chief Privacy Officer, Bennie Smith, was appointed to help the company “institute effective privacy policies and educate the public about DoubleClick’s commitment to online privacy” (“Bennie Smith, Chief Privacy Officer”). “As DoubleClick's Chief Privacy Officer, he is responsible for guiding privacy policies and practices across the company's business units and geographies” (“Bennie Smith, Chief Privacy Officer”). Smith is actively involved with many organizations that are committed to heightened awareness of consumer privacy issues. While working with these organizations Smith wants to help users to foster an understanding of how the Internet affects privacy in all aspects of our lives (“Privacy Leadership”). These organizations, which are committed to consumer awareness of privacy issues, include: Network Advertising Initiative, Online Privacy Alliance, and Internet Advertising Bureau.
