... But this is not the real image of the Welsh landscape. The aim of this poem is to destroy these preconceived ideas about Wales that those who to not live there can have, and show a more realistic image, if less attractive, of the country. ... This tension is perceived from the beginning of the poem, already in the first line of the first stanza (“too far for you to see”), a line that also appears at the beginning of each stanza in a similar way, to illustrate the enormous distance of someone to notice the cruel reality of the Welsh country. ... We can consider there is a structural parallelism between the three stanzas, more evidently between the first and the third, because negative images are presented in the same order: the diseases that affect them and how these are manifested; the repeated actions they carry on at a typical Welsh place, and how these have become routine and monotonous, merely contributing to creating this image of the Welsh country.
