The Parson and The Pardoner: Two Pilgrims in Contrast
Geoffrey Chaucer’s pilgrims in The Canterbury Tales represent a diverse group of the three segments of Medieval society. Many readers would anticipate the Parson and the Pardoner to be somewhat similar, but in fact quite the opposite is true. Assuming the position of a pardoner, one would assume that he is quite the religious and holy man. The Parson actually more adequately displays this holy persona.
