He plans on ‘taming’ her by showing her how ridiculous she has been. ... This makes Kate stop and think about how her previous situation was not that bad, and how unnecessarily unhappy she has been. She realises that Petruchio is actually freeing her from the hard life she has made for herself. Slowly her respect and love for Petruchio grows, as she sees that he is more intelligent than she has given him credit for. By the end of the play, she does whatever he bids, not just for him, but to get her own way too.
