Business Report-Telewest To- Ms Hussain From- David Garbutt Date- 11/02/02 1.0 Background History- Services Telewest provide the following services: Broadband internet (500kbps) down a cable Broadband internet (1mbps) down a cable Modem connection (56kbps) Down a phone line IDSN connection (2, 64kbps channels) DSL connection Various Business network services The services provided which are various internet connection and business network connection (telecommunications) are the only services which Telewest provide, it is core business. 1.1 Business Objectives All business have objectives used to help achieve their potential, Telewest have many of the common objectives, which are: To make a profit The company needs to make a profit because if they dont the business will not be able to do things which they wish to do. Without profits a business cannot keep it shareholders happy, it cannot pay higher wages to its employees and it cannot invest in better services and research into better technologies. ... To survive in the market This would mean that Telewest would have to gain at least the amount of money required to fund the costs of the business to keep them afloat in the market. ... Also by increasing market share the size of the business has increased which means equipment can be bought in bulk and so costs can be lowered. Also as the size of the business increases the experience also follows due to the fact the fault can be highlighted and cut out. ... To develop a skilled workforce This is a very important objective as the employees are the people who make the little decision for the business which make the business rise or fall. ... 1.2 How successfully is the Business meeting its objectives?
