Summer after summer, I was forced to scrape used gum off of the city streets. I worked lengthy hours and got paid little for my hard work. The long days of straining muscles and extremely huge blisters have taken its toll on me. The pain and embarrassment have helped me come to the conclusion that gum scraping isn’t the job for me. One reason that gum scraping isn’t for me is the fact that I dislike scraping gum with a passion. I hate it so much that I never use a butter knife for anything, even for butter, because of the dreadful memories that it brings to me. And whenever I see a stick or wad of gum I immediately run the other direction, in hope that I will be saved from the horror. I have learned over the years that a job isn’t something that should be forced on someone. It should be something that you enjoy doing throughout each and every day because a job is ongoing for the rest of your life.
