In terms of health and social care interprofessional collaboration ca be defined as “an interaction between or among the members of two or more disciplines involving professionals who work together, with intention, mutual respect, and commitments for the sake of a more adequate response to a human problem” (Harbaugh, 1994, pg 20 Carlton, cited by Russell, & Hymans (1994) volume 16 no 4 pg 254-262). This definition involves all of the sections that were explored in scenario one in the first interprofessional lecture. When reading scenario one the group came up with a number of questions that mainly focussed on what exactly interprofessional working was. ... During the interprofessional lectures I found that to be able to work collaboratively I needed to be able to gain the knowledge of what the roles of other disciplines do. ... This interaction promotes interprofessional working and involves joint decision making to clarify problems, planning and collective action. By taking the interprofessional perspective it will allow professionals to recognise that with just having one discipline will limit people to reach their full potential of well being. Therefore a joint group of disciplines will accomplish more than one member working alone (Harbaugh 1994). This can be reinforced by Barr (1995) that hold the belief that interprofessional working can be enhanced through IPE (interprofessional education). ... The White Paper Primary Care (DOH 1999) highlights the importance of shared learning through IPE and advocates specific team working events to promote this. ...
