SYMBOLISM

Symbolism is a commonly used tool that many writers use to indirectly express their personal thoughts and ideas. Some symbolism is very recognizable, while at other times it is hidden and the reader might not be able to pick up on it until the piece is read through two or maybe even three times. Other times it is clear that symbolism is present, but what the author is trying to symbolize is a mystery. Good writers are able to use symbolism to represent thoughts, ideas, people, events, or even places. ... Many books and well known stories are centered around this concept of animal symbolism, including works such as “The Lay of the Werewolf” and Inferno.
