The world has greatly been affected by the AIDS epidemic. AIDS is a great plague upon all humanity that has already claimed the lives of more than 23 million men, women and children worldwide. ... In this paper I will be going through the past few decades of the AIDS virus. I choose this topic because the AIDS virus is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. This topic is interesting to me because the numbers of AIDS deaths are going up every year and more than 23 million people died of AIDS worldwide. The main reason I choose to write on the history of AIDS is because I think that everyone should be educated on this virus. ... AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is named because it attacks and slowly destroys the body immune system. Today, AIDS is one of the leading causes of death for people between the ages of 19-45. ... In 1981, at total of 422 cases of what is now called AIDS were reported and 159 of the cases had already resulted in deaths.
